Definitions and Qualifications
NET CONTROL STATION (NCS)
An operator assigned to manage the operation of a formal radio net.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated practical experience as NCS of a net
- Practical experience with public service event operations
- Pass performance evaluation by the RO or an ARO.
OFFICER IN CHARGE (OIC)
The Radio Officer or Assistant Radio Officer appointed to be in charge of the RACES Group operation in an incident, event or exercise. The Radio Officer may appoint an ARO to be the OIC for a particular event or incident.
Event OIC qualifications:
- RO or ARO designation
- Should be involved in the event planning if possible.
RAPID RESPONSE OPERATOR
An individual RACES Operator or higher level with the equipment and skills necessary for rapid self-sustained deployment in communication emergencies. This is a voluntary assignment, requested by the individual and approved by the Radio Officer. For those occasions when the situation warrants, two or more Rapid Response Operators may be deployed as a Rapid Response Field Team.
